June 14 (Tues) - The science of processing speed:
Why some children struggle to keep up and how it impacts learning and attention

7pm - 8:30pm at the Rockville Memorial Library
Many of our children struggle with slow processing speed; but what does this mean, exactly? In this lecture, we will describe what is meant by the term "processing speed" and discuss its role in learning and attention problems. We will discuss strategies for supporting children with slow processing, as well as useful accommodations.

June 29 (Wed) - "Brown Bag Lunch" Teacher Discussion Group
11:30am - 12:45pm at the Rockville Memorial Library
Calling all Teachers! Whether you've been teaching for one year or many, there are always issues that arise when you have students with learning challenges in your classroom. Join us for a facilitated "brown bag lunch" discussion group to share your challenges from the past school year and get ideas and suggestions from veteran teachers about how to address those classroom challenges in the future. ** bring your lunch and your questions!

August 23 (Tues) - Getting Ready For a Great New School Year
6:45 - 8:15pm at the Olney Library
This program and facilitated discussion group for parents will address topics to get the school year off to a great start, including setting up a homework routine, developing a partnership and good communication with teachers, organizing a study space and notebook, and what to do do if things aren't going well.

September 18 & 25 (Sun)
2-4pm at the Olney library
Join us to view the highly acclaimed "FAT (Frustration, Anxiety and Tension) City: How Difficult Can This Be?" by Rick Lavoie.
This video offers amazing insight into the challenges that students with learning challenges face and gives you a first-hand simulation experience of many processing difficulties faced by individuals with learning challenges. This program will include viewing segments of the video simulating the learning challenge and discussion about how those specific challenges impact a child's life both in and out of the classroom.
